The e Vitara is Maruti's maiden EV.

Maruti Suzuki India will launch its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, in the country in December 2025. The electric SUV, already in production and being exported to global markets, will mark the company's entry into India's passenger electric vehicle segment.

The e Vitara is built on the new Heartect-e architecture, Suzuki's dedicated BEV platform. It will be available with two battery pack options, 49kWh and 61kWh, delivering a claimed driving range of over 500km on a single full charge for the larger pack. The model will be retailed through the Nexa dealership network.

Maruti has positioned the e Vitara as a global model manufactured exclusively in India. It is being produced at the company's Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, which also serves as the export hub for the model. In August 2025, the company began shipments to Europe, dispatching 2,900 units to 12 countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium. The e Vitara will eventually be exported to more than 100 markets worldwide, including Japan.

The e Vitara's exterior design follows NEXA's 'Crafted Futurism' philosophy, featuring bold proportions, polyhedral styling, and aerodynamic detailing. It gets 18-inch alloy wheels, matrix LED DRLs, LED projector headlamps, and a sculpted front fascia. Inside, the electric SUV offers a dual-screen digital cockpit with a 10.1-inch infotainment display and a 10.25-inch multi-information cluster. Other features include ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, a twin-deck floating console, and ambient lighting.

The e Vitara uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor with an output of up to 128kW and 192.5Nm of torque. It offers multiple drive modes, including Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow, along with regenerative braking for one-pedal driving. The adaptive grille shutters and thermal management system enhance energy efficiency across a wide temperature range, tested from -30°C to 60°C, as claimed by the company.

The electric SUV features a high-tensile steel structure with more than 50% advanced-grade steel content. Safety equipment includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), seven airbags as standard, all-disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and an advanced battery pack protection structure.

Maruti will support the rollout through a dedicated EV ecosystem, which includes home-charging solutions, a plug-and-play DC fast-charging network at dealerships, and over 1,500 EV-enabled service outlets across 1,000 cities. Customers will have access to the 'e for me' app for locating chargers, scheduling charging sessions, and making payments.

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara rivals in India will be the Tata Curvv.ev, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and Mahindra BE 6 in the mid-size electric SUV segment. We expect the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara price in India to start from around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
